Tao and Sound — An Encounter with the Qin in Warsaw
September 25 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm Warsaw
Description
The Qin (guqin, 琴) is the oldest and most revered instrument in the Chinese musical tradition, with a history spanning more than three thousand years. For centuries, it has symbolized wisdom, inner harmony, and self-cultivation. In Chinese tradition, the guqin represents the human heart and the path of inner development. Its music, also known as Qin Xin (琴心) – “Music of the Heart”, has served for over a thousand years as a means of contemplation, healing, and nurturing harmony between body, mind, and spirit.
The guqin was never intended as an instrument for virtuoso performance or public spectacle. Rather, it was created as a companion for quiet reflection and a profound dialogue with oneself and with nature. Even its construction is deeply symbolic: the gently arched upper soundboard represents Heaven, while the flat lower board represents Earth. Together, they remind us of the harmony that can exist between human beings and the natural world. For generations, the guqin accompanied scholars, philosophers, and Daoist masters in their lifelong pursuit of inner balance and wisdom.
We warmly invite you to join Master Wu for this unique musical encounter. More than a concert, it is an opportunity to experience the timeless beauty of the guqin, discover its place within Chinese philosophy and culture, and immerse yourself in the quiet, healing harmony of the Dao.
