When I was a child in China, I was curious about the way that the local Wu 巫 (Chinese shaman) gave treatments to patients. How could an acupuncture needle release the pain when the Wu put it in a suffering patient’s body? How could his chanting help patients recover from their sickness? Though I grew to understand more knowledge about Chinese medicine as I grew up, I never got the answers to my questions during my childhood.
My early questions grew into more questions! What are meridians? What is an acupuncture point? Where did this knowledge come from? How do we know to practice in these ways? Through decades of Qigong practice, I finally got all the answers to my questions. I came to understand that ancient Wu 巫 Chinese Shamanism is the root of all traditional Chinese culture culture, which of course includes Classical Chinese Medicine.
